How to prepare your child for a visit to the dentist?

Hits: 445

Here are a few practical ideas to prepare your child for a visit to the dentist and to go as smoothly as possible.

Practice ‘playing’ dentist at home. Let your child lay on your lap at home on the couch and practice opening wide. Then count their teeth.

Your children will LOVE checking your teeth, especially if they see you have a silver or gold filling. Just be prepared for them to tell everyone they see for the next few days (or maybe that’s just my kids!!)

Ensure they aren’t too tired for their appointment

Try to encourage a positive attitude to the visit. Sometimes parents can make things difficult by talking about the visit in a negative way. For example, when trying to get their children to brush their teeth.

Try not to build up the appointment too much by telling your child about it a lot or too soon before the appointment.

Children are very sensitive to their parent’s feelings, even if they don’t understand what is happening, so it’s good if you are aware of how you are feeling, and do your best to keep relaxed. We will do our best to help you with this.

Good luck and we look forward to seeing you soon at Dent8 Dental.
